Hey Succa & Skulls is a small side project started on Halloween 2019, fast forward to today, I hold a professional Taxidermy license, and self taught (specialise) in entomology.
Over the years I've developed my own methods for cleaning specimens.
Here I preach that natural is best, and live by this.
Whilst boiling is a fast, effective and common method of maceration, I prefer to let time, insects and the power of nature to do most of the work. In turn this assists with degreasing naturally, which is a crucial part of the process for any skeletal specimen entering a home for display.
I have cleaned specimens as small as a mouse, up to my largest being the dromedary camel.
Besides the natural aspect, its also very interesting to see the different stages each skull goes through during the same process.
Most are brought to me by hunters, farm and pet owners, who bring the animal with a story, so the natural process (which I document for the owner) adds to that story for them to take home.
Preservation of insects has become the heart of the business, and is something I take great pride in being able to offer sustainably and ethically. Partnered with a wonderful Entomologist going on four years.
I've worked on the tiniest little moths like the Rosy Maple, up to some of the largest on earth like the Giant Attacus atlas, and the Great White Witch.
I offer many services from specimen cleaning, framed insect displays (Moths in particular), custom glass dome displays, importing of unique and antique items.
If you'd like to know more, plan a commission entomology display, have some specimens cleaned, or just have a chat, contact Lanah via Instagram, Facebook, or webstore
